Question: How do I get started downloading audio books?

Answer: Getting started is a very simple process.  Briefly the steps are:
  1. Pick a plan.  Based on your listening pace, choose a plan ensuring you'll receive new books when you need them.  If you don't want to subscribe to a monthly plan most companies offer to let you make individual purchases.
  2. Download Company's Software.  Because companies are not allowed to distribute audio books in mp3 format most companies have their own free software that you download and install on your computer.  This software is what you use to download and manage the audio book files you purchase. If you're using Audible.com you can also use iTunes to download audio, as well as burn it to a standard CD or stream right from your computer.
  3. Purchase and download your book(s).  Depending on which company you decide to use you could choose from a selection of over 40,000 books, magazines, newspapers, and podcasts.
  4. Transfer your audio to your mobile audio device.  Want to listen to your audio on the go? No problem.  In fact, one of the nicest aspects of audio books is the ability to listen to them in almost any environment, including driving, jogging, working out, or taking a walk.  Enjoy your audio anywhere!
Question: Do I have to subscribe to a monthly membership before I can buy and download audio books?

Answer: The short answer is no you do not.  With most companies you will still have to create a login account and then you can purchase books a la carte.  However, depending on your specific circumstances it might be beneficial for you to join one of the membership plans.  There are different plans you can sign up for and one of them may be more economical than just purchasing audio books individually.

Question: What membership plans are available?

Answer: Check out our Comparison Page for a breakdown of the various membership plans available.

Question: What are credits?

Answer:  Credits are what you receive with some membership plans.  One credit basically equals one audio book.  You use your credits to choose from the available books, magazines, newspapers, and radio programs.

Question: Is my mp3 device Audio Book Ready?
